Thirty seconds proved to be the undoing for the Johnstown Chiefs as they fell 2-1 on Friday night against the Trenton Titans.

Goals by Mike Pandolfo and Bryan Miller a half-minute apart was all the scoring Trenton could muster on Chiefs goaltender Morgan Cey.

Pandolfo capitalized on a two-on-one break with Scott Bertoli at the 13:26 mark of the middle stanza, and Miller poked a loose puck into the net at 13:56.

Cey stopped 31 shots for the Chiefs (12-13-2-1, 27 points).

Trenton improved to 13-9-0-2, good for 28 points to jump Johnstown in the North Division standings.

Both teams are still only a couple of points behind first-place Cincinnati, which has 32 points.

P.J. Atherton’s power-play tally in the first period was it for the Chiefs, who took 16 shots on Titans netminder Gregg Naumenko.

Johnstown will drive back across Pennsylvania for a meeting with the Nailers in Wheeling at 7:30 tonight. The Nailers sit in last place in the North with 25 points, just two back of the Chiefs.

Johnstown returns home for the team’s traditional New Year’s Eve game against Toledo at 6 p.m.
