Virginia freshman Ethan Dabbs opened the meet with a freshman record in the javelin.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s team was led by its field performers during the team’s home opener against Maryland and Pittsburgh on Saturday at Lannigan Field.

Freshman Ethan Dabbs opened the meet with a freshman record in the javelin. Dabbs, a Richland graduate threw a mark of 68.57 meters (224-11) to win the event and record the sixth-best throw in school history.

For Dabbs, who won the PIAA championship in the javelin last May, it was his first meet and was a personal best toss on Saturday.
