Santa Fund Soccer Classic Olivia Shaulis

Coaches and officials for Saturday’s Santa Fund Soccer Classic have been named with the festivities on Saturday to begin at 1 p.m. for the girls game and approximately 3 p.m. for the boys’ contest.

The soccer all-star doubleheader will take place at Trojan Stadium on the campus of Greater Johnstown High School.

Admission to the all-star games is free, but donations will be accepted for The Tribune-Democrat’s Santa Fund, which provides gifts during the holidays for local children whose families are experiencing hardship.

Coaches for the North girls team are Bishop McCort’s Meredith Mishler, who led the Crimson Crushers to the District 6 Class A final, and Forest Hills’ Lari Gallaher, who guided the Rangers into the 6-AA postseason. They’ll be opposed by South coaches B. Paul Buza of Windber and Jake Zorn of Berlin Brothersvalley. Buza took the Ramblers to the 5-A championship and into the PIAA Class A tournament while Zorn’s Mountaineers reached the 5-A final.

Coaches in the boys game for the South are Windber’s Brett Hoffman and Somerset’s Mark Wassilchalk, both of whom guided their squads into the PIAA tournament. Hoffman’s Ramblers took the 5-A crown and reached the PIAA quarterfinals while Somerset took home a win in a subregion contest before falling in the first round of the Class AAA tourney.

Bishop McCort’s Ron Spinelli heads the North boys after his Crimson Crushers netted a 6-A title and a berth in the PIAA tourney.

Officials for the games, from the Laurel Highlands Chapter of PIAA referees will be Matthew Murray, Peter Buss and William Stasko on the girls game, with Brian Weinzerl, Ray Leverknight and Peter Buss taking the boys contest.
