Bloomsburg was declared the 2019 Pennsylvania State Athletic Champion after the tournament was truncated due to weather at Sargent’s Stadium at the Point on Sunday.
Following the PSAC policies, the Huskies won the championship based on the league’s criteria for a shortened tournament.
Bloomsburg was the only unbeaten team at 3-0 after defeating No. 20 Mercyhurst (12-0, 7 innings), West Chester and No. 7 Millersville.
Sophomore Ben Newbert was named Most Valuable Player after hitting .364 and slugging 1.000 over three contests. He paced the tournament field with 10 RBIs, which included a grand slam and three-run home run.
This marks the fourth time that Bloomsburg won the PSAC crown and first since 1965.
The Huskies (4-seed in six-team Atlantic Regional field) earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, along with PSAC members Gannon (3), Mercyhurst (5), Millersville (1) and West Chester (2).
