The Windber High School boys basketball team trailed by six points at halftime and faced an 11-point deficit in the third quarter before rallying to a double-digit victory in the District 5 Class AA semifinal round on Friday night.

Windber High School won its first District 5 Class A girls cross country team championship and North Star’s Emily Coddington was the individual champion on Tuesday.

Jeremy Layton carried 25 times for a game-high 174 yards and two touchdowns as the Ramblers edged the gritty Yellow Jackets, 21-13, in a game that took almost four hours to complete.

Cody Simanski was a huge part of a Windber High School football revival this past season, while Devan Marhefka and Abigail Steinbeck each were mainstays on the Ramblers’ championship boys and girls soccer teams, respectively.
