The Portage boys’ basketball team got off to a fast start on its home floor in Wednesday night’s opening-round District 6 Class 2A playoff contest against Bishop McCort Catholic, and the Mustangs were able to hold off a fourth-quarter rally by the Crimson Crushers and eventually pull away for a 72-53 victory.

Will Miller rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns as Bishop McCort Catholic defeated Glendale in the first round of the District 6 Class A playoffs at Sargent’s Stadium at the Point. Miller now moves ahead of Carnell Andrews as the third all-time leading rusher in Bishop McCort history. He now has 2,812 career rushing yards and is behind only Anthony Walters and Pete Duranko on the all-time list.

The Ligonier Valley football team rolled through the Heritage Conference during the 2019 regular season with an unblemished 9-0 record. That trend continued on Friday night in the first round of the District 6 Class AA playoffs, as the Rams defeated West Shamokin 49-7.
