State police in Pittsburgh were investigating Tuesday after a Cambria County inmate allegedly confessed to killing a woman in Allegheny County.
According to a press release from state police, an unnamed male inmate at the Cambria County Prison contacted a counselor on Monday and asked to speak with law enforcement.
“The male related during the interview that he killed a female,” at a Maple Street address in East Pittsburgh, the release said.
State police in Pittsburgh were then contacted and troopers went to the address given by the male inmate to conduct a welfare check.
“Troopers discovered the deceased body of a female in the residence,” the release said.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office was contacted.
State police have not yet released the name of the suspect or the deceased.
Although state police indicated charges would be filed Tuesday, no additional information was available Tuesday evening.
