Johnstown Police Department cruiser

A Johnstown Police Department cruiser is parked outside the Public Safety Building on Monday, April 9, 2018.

A young boy was transported to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center after being struck by a passing car Sunday on North Sheridan Street in Johnstown.

Johnstown police said the driver never stopped – and the incident is being investigated as a hit-and-run.

The accident occurred at 1:13 p.m., according to Cambria County 911 officials.

Johnstown police Officer Brian Stevens said the youth was walking alongside his mother toward Oakhurst when a sedan drove past, clipping the boy in the head with its side view mirror.

The impact caused the mirror to fall off and the child was treated at the scene for a head wound, Stevens said. The youth’s injuries appeared to be relatively minor, and he was conscious and responsive when responders arrived, he added.

West End Ambulance transported the child.

Police were still investigating the accident as of 7 p.m.

The vehicle was described as a silver, four-door car and it was last spotted leaving the scene toward Save-A-Lot, Stevens said. Its side view mirror is now missing on one side.
