Penelec officials marked the company’s 100th anniversary by sitting down to share stories and lunch with its employees across western Pennsylvania Monday.

The Pennsylvania Electric Co. – now a utility under FirstEnergy Corp.– marked the occasion in Altoona, Johnstown, Erie and several other locations Monday.

What started as a small company with 16 customers along two miles of line today serves a 17,000-mile territory with 600,000 customers.

“The world has changed immeasurably over the last 100 years, and Penelec has been there every step of the way, delivering safe, reliable service to our customers,” Penelec Regional President Nick Austin said.
