LORETTO – Cancer patients in rural areas of Cambria County will soon have access to free transportation to treatments and rehabilitation.
St. Francis University and its Center for Rural Cancer Survivorship is preparing to begin operating the county’s first Road to Recovery service, in partnership with the American Cancer Society.
The cancer society and CNB Bank provided a 2017 Kia Soul vehicle for the service, and students in the St. Francis master of science program in cancer care are training to become volunteer drivers, the university announced.
“We are honored to receive this distinction and vehicle from the American Cancer Society” the Rev. Malachi Van Tassell, university president, said in a press release.
“This will allow the university to continue our mission of service and will allow us to continue positively impacting the
residents of our local community.”
There is no income limit for those receiving the free rides.
Information is available by contacting the cancer society at 800-227-2345.
