New police lights

NORTH HUDSON, N.Y. – State Police patrolling this tiny town near the head waters of the Hudson River weren’t suspecting criminal evidence in a chocolate milk bottle when they stopped Joseph J. Garcia for speeding.

But they soon knew something wasn’t right when they noticed spillage from the bottle and discovered it contained crack cocaine along with the brown milk.

They concluded Garcia had tried to hide the illegal drug by pouring it into the milk bottle when he spotted the State Police cruiser, lights flashing, approaching him on Interstate 87 north late Wednesday afternoon.

Garcia, 59, Port Henry, New York, was charged with tampering with physical evidence, possession of a controlled substance; and operating a motor vehicle while impaired.

The Plattburgh, N.Y., Press-Republican contributed details for this story.
