Jackson Township is hopeful thinning out some of its forestland will earn the community some green.
The township has agreed with Ebensburg-based American Forestry Consultants to survey nearly 200 acres of township property, including land near Loraine Park, for selective timbering.
Eventual timbering at Loraine Park will clear the way for a small park expansion that would include a fishing pond, township Manager Dave Hirko said.
“This would be the largest amount of timbering we’ve done here in a long time,” Hirko said.
Township officials were hesitant to speculate on how much revenue the task would bring, although Hirko said a five-figure payout was realistic.
