Conemaugh Township, Cambria County, fire

David and Roberta Konsavich were left homeless after a fire destroyed through their Conemaugh Township, Cambria County, home on Friday.

David and Roberta Konsavich of Conemaugh Township, Cambria County, were left homeless Friday as the result of an early morning fire that destroyed their home at 536 Beech Hill Road.

“I would consider it a total loss,” said Bill Scherer, deputy fire chief for Cover Hill Volunteer Fire Company.

“They can’t occupy it.

“The fire started in the basement and spread to the second floor,” he said. “The residents were not at home, they were out delivering newspapers for The Tribune-Democrat.

“A passerby called in the alarm, and we were dispatched at 5:34 a.m.”

Julie Fox-Arnott, director of audience development for The Tribune-Democrat, said there will be substitute carriers on the routes for the next few days.

The couple have been delivering newspapers since June and have four routes.

The American Red Cross is providing temporary housing.

Three family pets – two cats and a dog – perished in the fire.

Firefighters from from Franklin, St. Michael, East Taylor and Conemaugh fire companies also responded.
