A western Pennsylvania man will spend 10 to 30 years in state prison for beating and robbing his elderly father over a dog prosecutors say was put to sleep 20 years ago.
Forty-two-year-old Eric Gregory Taylor, of Export, has been jailed since the attack in 2007. Police say 78-year-old Eugene Edward Taylor told them his son ordered him to remove money from a safe in their home after hitting him several times in the face.
The suspect, who pleaded guilty but mentally ill to the crimes in July, believes his father deserved the beating for denying him an inheritance and killing the dog as part of a satanic ritual.
Prosecutors say Eugene Taylor and his family deny his son’s claims.
