A Hollsopple man wanted in the state of Indiana was arrested after Conemaugh Township police found his vehicle on fire, authorities said.
Police on routine patrol found a vehicle on fire near Fox’s Pizza Den in Davidsville around 11:30 p.m. Friday.
Police said they smelled alcohol on the driver, who was identified as Stephen Eugene Blough, 44. Police found Blough was wanted in Indiana on felony charges.
He was arraigned Saturday by District Judge Arthur Cook of Somerset on a charge of flight to avoid apprehension and sent to the Somerset County Jail. More charges are pending, police said.
Bridge project to be discussed
STOYSTOWN – PennDOT will hold an open house and plans display to discuss the proposed Beaver Dam Creek Bridge rehabilitation in Quemahoning Township from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Quemahoning Township Building, 424 Forbes Road, Stoystown.
The Route 4017, Beaver Dam Road, bridge rehab will include removal of the existing deck and beams and replacement with a new superstructure.
The plans display will introduce the project and allow the public an opportunity to review and comment on the proposed project and traffic control, as well as comment on potential environmental and community effects. Anyone with knowledge of historic resources in the project area is asked to attend this meeting.
PennDOT representatives will be available to answer questions and receive input.
Driver accused of DUI
SOMERSET – A Somerset man was charged with driving under the influence after borough police said they found him prone in a water puddle and his car resting on a guardrail at the turnpike exit in Somerset.
Police said they received a call of a “man down” at 2:45 p.m. May 1. They found James Allen Wagner, 55, face-down in rainwater near a Ford Ranger. Officers and an EMS crew pulled him up from the water and immediately smelled alcohol, authorities said.
Wagner was incoherent and speaking in muffled words, police said. After placing him in the ambulance, police said they found beer cans in the front seat of the truck.
Wagner is being charged with DUI-related offenses, police said.
Pepper spray suspect sought
INDIANA – Police are looking for a man who pepper sprayed a woman who works at a textbook buyback stand, then took two books and some money from her.
Borough police said they’re still looking for the suspect in Tuesday’s robbery at a stand operated by Penn Text Co. near a parking garage owned by IUP.
The woman said she had just bought two books from the man and had turned around to get his money when he sprayed her in the face, then grabbed a hand-held case in which she was carrying money.
Police aren’t saying how much money was stolen. They said the clerk wasn’t harmed beyond being pepper sprayed.
Clymer man accused of assault
INDIANA – A Clymer man was charged with simple assault and DUI after state police said he punched a woman in the face, then took her vehicle and crashed it.
Troopers said Cory Keith Warfel, 21, punched the 21-year-old woman in the face Wednesday evening and crashed her vehicle into an above-ground pool in the 900 block of Marion Road in White Township. The crash site is about
350 yards from the scene of the assault on Rousch Drive.
