Prosecutors expect to call about six witnesses to testify at today’s preliminary hearing for murder suspect Antonio Winkleman and his girlfriend before District Judge Rick Varner.

Winkleman, 25, of Johnstown, is charged with shooting and killing Scott Ickes on Dec. 9 at Ickes’ Elton home in Adams Township.

Winkleman’s girlfriend, Heather Head, 20, also of Johnstown, is charged with helping Winkleman flee after the shooting.

Assistant District Attorney Forrest Fordham said Tuesday that several police officers, Coroner Dennis Kwiatkowski and possibly people who were at Ickes’ house on the night of the shooting will testify.

Fordham is joined by Assistant District Attorney Thomas Leiden in prosecuting the case.

Attorneys John Kasaback and Paul Eckenrode have been appointed by the court to represent Winkleman. Head is represented by Chief Public Defender Lisa Lazzari.

State police and Adams Township police said that Winkleman, who was staying temporarily at the victim’s home, shot Ickes at least three times with a handgun during an argument.

Authorities have not said what the motive was for the shooting and have not said what the two men were arguing about.

After the shooting, Winkleman and Head left the house. Head eventually was taken into custody Dec. 13 at a State College motel, but Winkleman eluded authorities at that time by jumping from a second-story window. He was captured the following day in Altoona.

Winkleman is charged with first-degree murder and is being held in the county jail without bond. Head continues to be jailed in lieu of $50,000 bond.
