A Friedens man is charged with killing a Greensburg man Thursday while the two were working at a home in the 500 block of Beam Church Road in Jenner Township.

State police at Somerset say Shawn Earnest Shaulis, 34, of the 100 block of Waterloo Street in Friedens killed Thomas F. Williams, 60, of Greensburg when he assaulted him in the home, which Williams owned.

Williams was reported missing by his girlfriend on Friday, police said. During their investigation, police searched the home, located in the village of Gray, finding Williams’ concealed body.

Additional investigation and interviews identified Shaulis as a suspect.

A trooper spotted Shaulis Saturday afternoon in a vehicle along Walker Grove Road in Somerset Township, but the suspect sped off when the trooper tried to stop him. The pursuit continued to Ken Lohr Road, where police say Shaulis abandoned the vehicle. He was captured after a foot chase.

Shaulis was arraigned Saturday evening before on-call District Judge Douglas Bell of Meyersdale. He was placed in Somerset County Jail.

State police announced a press conference on the case will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Somerset station. No additional details will be available before the press conference, police said.

Shaulis apparently was still on probation after pleading guilty to several charges of access device fraud and theft and to one count of making false reports. Somerset County court records show he was sentenced in March 2008 to at least 8 months in jail, with an additional two years probation on the charges in eight cases dating back to 2006.
