Two former Altoona police officers charged in a bar fight won’t be tried by an out-of-town jury.
A Blair County judge also said Monday the trial of former Altoona police officers Duane Eichenlaub and Eric Kriner won’t be moved to another county, according to a report by The Altoona Mirror.
Eichenlaub and Kriner are accused of attacking a man who groped Eichenlaub’s wife and a bystander who tried to intervene in the May 2010 beating. Prosecutors say the off-duty officers then tried to cover up the beating.
Eichenlaub’s attorney denied there was a conspiracy. Kriner’s attorney requested a dismissal of charges, saying there’s no evidence his client struck either man.
One Altoona officer who investigated the incident was fired and a second resigned.
