People considering a career in early education – or furthering it – are encouraged to attend a session hosted by The Learning Lamp on Thursday.

The local nonprofit will provide information to attendees during a session titled

Earn a Free College Degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education at its 2025 Bedford St. center in Johnstown from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

A representative from the Pennsylvania Child Care Association will discuss the Teacher Education and Compensation Helps (TEACH) Early Childhood scholarship program, which was created to boost the education level for childcare workers and the compensation they receive.

To qualify, individuals must work for a participating learning program, such as The Learning Lamp.

The scholarship program covers 95 percent of tuition as well as other costs, including travel expenses, toward an associate degree in the field, community college classes and other coursework, Learning Lamp officials said.

Details on a credentialed apprenticeship program – through a partnership with Somerset Technology Center and Penn Highlands Community College – will also be offered.

To reserve a spot at the session, call Stephanie Wilt at 814-262-0732.
