OHIOPYLE – Rescue crews are searching for a man who reportedly climbed over an observation deck railing to take a photo and then fell into a western Pennsylvania river and was washed over a waterfall.

Emergency dispatchers in Fayette County said the fall was reported shortly before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ohiopyle Falls on the Youghiogheny River.

Park manager Ken Bisbee said the 20- or 21-year-old man was with friends visiting Ohiopyle State Park.

Officials said the park was working with the Army Corps of Engineers, which maintains a reservoir 11 miles upstream, to lower the water level.

The falls drops 20 feet and leads to a stretch of the river famed for numerous class III and IV rapids.
