HARRISON VALLEY – State police say five people were hurt when their Amish buggy overturned after a head-on crash with an SUV in rural northern Pennsylvania. The SUV also flipped.
Troopers tell the Star-Gazette in Elmira, New York, that William Cowles was attempting to pass a pickup truck around 7 a.m. Sunday when he plowed into 52-year-old Jacob Peachey’s buggy in Harrison Township.
Peachey, of Spring Run, was hospitalized along with passengers Hannah Stoltzfus, of Spring Mills; Fannie Fisher, of Centre Hall; and Daniel and Annie Fisher, of Marshall, Indiana.
Their conditions weren’t immediately available.
The Star-Gazette reports the 62-year-old Cowles sustained minor abrasions and refused treatment. Troopers ticketed him for driving on the wrong side of the road.
The pickup truck’s driver, 51-year-old Clayton Hurd, ran off the road to avoid crashing.
