A Johnstown postal carrier was recognized on Thursday for his efforts to save a woman and her grandson from a burning home in Ferndale on Nov. 22.
Johnstown Postmaster Wendy Hudak presented postal carrier Matthew Lamb with a certificate during a ceremony at the Johnstown post office along Franklin Street.
Lamb helped Helen Rucosky out of her home along Ogle Street in Ferndale and called 911, then learned the Rucoskys’ grandson, Adam, was sleeping upstairs. Lamb caught the boy as he climbed out a window.
Helen’s husband, Robert Rucosky, was not home at the time.
