On New Year's Eve, Josh Gallagher walked out onto the ice and sang to a 1st Summit Arena crowd there to watch the Johnstown Tomahawks battle the Northeast Generals.
The next time Gallagher performs at 1st Summit Arena @ Cambria County War Memorial, it will be on a stage with his full band behind him.
The Cresson native and 2016 finalist on NBC's popular show "The Voice" will be the opening act March 13 for concert featuring country star Cole Swindell, both Gallagher and 1st Summit Arena officials said Wednesday.
"I did two hockey games there and they were packed," Gallagher said from Nashville, where he is putting the finishing touches on an extended-play (EP) album that will be released the same week he performs in Johnstown.
Gallagher has performed numerous times in his home region, including at the Thunder in the Valley motorcycle rally and before a AAABA tournament game at Sargent's Stadium at the Point.
"Now, to come back home and get on that stage and open for Cole and play a show like that, it's going to be a great time," he said.
Tickets range from $45 to $59 and can be purchased through TicketMaster, online at www.1stsummitarena.com or at the arena box office at 326 Napoleon St., Johnstown.
Gallagher said he knows Swindell, who has three hit albums and was named new artist of the year in 2016 by the Country Music Association.
"He'll pack the arena by himself," Gallagher said, "and hopefully we'll bring in a few folks to hear the show."
