PITTSBURGH – The Fort Pitt Museum at Point State Park in Pittsburgh will close for most of this month for maintenance and so exhibits can be updated.
The museum will close Monday and reopen Jan. 31.
The work will include installing interactive exhibits and updates to educational areas, which will make the museum more attractive when school groups visit. The museum’s lifelike figures will also be spruced up.
The museum is also working on a new exhibit set to open in May centering on American Indian captivity in the 17th and 18th centuries. The exhibit will include “captivity narratives” in which European settlers wrote about their experiences being taken captive by American Indians. The museum is trying to find descendants of those captives to participate in the exhibit.
