Members of the Box On Band perform to a crowd Saturday, June 1, 2019, at the 22nd annual PolkaFest at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church Pavilion in the Cambria City section of Johnstown. Festivities continue Sunday, June 2, 2019, starting with a Polka Mass at 11 a.m.

When my wife and I started this event 22 years ago, never did we expect the Johnstown Polkafest would visualize the thousands of people, the tons of food or the brewski that would be consumed.

The music that filled the area was nonstop from the nation’s top-notch bands. A versatile mix of quality songs pleased the young and elderly crowd. Even the little ones had fun picking duckies.

Words cannot explain the atmosphere of the huge crowd. Fun for the whole family.

Family polka lovers from 15 different states enjoyed the happiness, friendliness and ethnic traditions we had to offer.

My thanks to Monsignor Raymond Balta, St. Mary’s Church, Greater Johnstown/Cambria County Convention & Visitors Bureau and volunteers.

Thank you Bronco and Karen, and the vendors who complemented the crowd with a large variety of food.

The word is out: the best festival anywhere. Thank you, God, for three beautiful days.
