Roman Catholic Diocese of Altoona–Johnstown

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Altoona–Johnstown is moving from its headquarters in Hollidaysburg. Friday, August 7, 2015.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown will soon open a new hub, the Mary Mother of the Church Pastoral Center.

Located at the former Our Lady of Lourdes School in Altoona, the site will be home to the diocese’s headquarters, which will move from its current location in Hollidaysburg, beginning next week, according to an announcement made on Tuesday.

The building will also house the bishop’s office, tribunal, office of communications, education office, family life office (currently located in Lilly) and a television studio for production of the diocesan Proclaim! TV Ministry.

“It is important to Bishop Mark (Bartchak) that we live within our means when it comes to the operations of the diocese,” Tony DeGol, the diocese’s secretary for communications, said. “Our current administrative complex in Hollidaysburg includes four buildings and several acres of land.

“Operating out of one building with only a small parking area to maintain will be much more cost-efficient. We also anticipate greater synergy and efficiency among staff as they carry out their ministry under one roof.”

DeGol continued: “Everything we have as a diocese is thanks to the generosity of our faithful. The move to the new building is yet another step in our efforts to assure them that we are being responsible stewards of their gifts and support.”

Altoona-Johnstown sold its Hollidaysburg complex, where it had been headquartered since 1972, to Garvey Manor Nursing Home.

Starting on Monday, all mail should be sent to the new headquarters: Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown; 2713 West Chestnut Ave.; Altoona, PA 16601-1720. The phone number remains 814-695-5579.
