WINDBER – A Central City woman will stand trial, accused of stealing money that was intended for a cancer patient, authorities said.

Marcia L. Kimmel, 35, of Lambert Street, waived her right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge William Seger of Windber.

According to a criminal complaint filed by state police in Somerset, Kimmel assisted with a benefit drive for a cancer patient in July 2017.

Kimmel reportedly gave a check for $4,337 – part of the proceeds – to the patient's mother but the check was returned for insufficient funds.

Kimmel then told the patient's mother that she could not write another check because she no longer had the funds in her bank account, the complaint said.

She was charged with theft by deception, theft by failing to make required disposition of funds and issuing a bad check.

Kimmel remains free on $10,000 unsecured bond.
