Two Johnstown police officers were injured Thursday morning during an altercation with an intoxicated man, authorities said.

Police were called to Market Street Commons, 350 Market St., for a domestic dispute just before 1 a.m.

When the elevator doors in the lobby opened, Andrew Douglas Heltzel allegedly "ran out of the elevator and tackled Officer (Amber) Noel," according to a criminal complaint.

She struck her head and was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center with a concussion.

During the struggle, Noel was able to deploy her Taser to stop the assault, the complaint said.

Police said Heltzel "admitted to drinking and reported having mental health issues."

After he was placed in the ambulance, Heltzel allegedly broke a window and injured officer, Robert Hanik, who suffered a broken bone in his hand.

Police Chief Robert Johnson said both officers were treated and released from the hospital.

Heltzel, 28, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.

He was arraigned by on-call District Judge Michael Musulin, of Johnstown, and sent to Cambria County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of $100,000 bond.
