MASTALLER – Thomas Louis, 87, of Portage, passed away Nov. 30, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Oct. 26, 1920, in Puritan, son of John and Blanche (Barron) Mastaler. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Anthony, Joseph, Fred and Daniel Mastaler; brothers-in-law, Russell Roush and Robert Schechter. Survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary (Pisarski) Mastaller, whom he married Sept. 1, 1951; children, Linda M., wife of William Long, Ebensburg, and Thomas J., married to the former Patricia Ryan, Canonsburg. He will be sadly missed by his beloved grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn and Kelsey Ann Mastaller. Tom is the brother of Blanche, wife of Steve Husinka, Windber; Louise Schechter, Xenia, Ohio; Esther Roush, New Germany; and the brother-in-law of Violet Mastaler, Dearborn Heights, Mich., and Jean Mastaler, Williamsburg, Va. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was a retired coal miner, last employed by Bethlehem Mines Corp. at Mine 33, Ebensburg. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served in Company D with the Heavy Weapons Division in the Philippine Islands. He was a lifetime member of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Portage. In his younger days, Tom enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and going for walks or driving his jeep in the woods. He also loved spending time visiting with his family, relatives and friends. Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Mark A. Serenko Funeral Home, Portage, where vigil for the deceased will be held Monday evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, Mountain Avenue, Father Walter Moll, celebrant. Entombment, Sacred Heart Mausoleum.
