CLAUTO – Stephaine J. “Wanda,” 87, Gallitzin, died March 30, 2009, at ARHS-Altoona Hospital Campus. Born March 10, 1922, in Gallitzin, daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Myrda) Szynal. Preceded in death by sisters, Josephine Gaskulsky and Sophie “Zoe” Hawl; two infant brothers; and brothers: Walter, Steve, Andrew and Edward. Survived by her husband, James J., whom she married Jan. 7, 1939, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Gallitzin (death ends a marriage union of 70 years); and these children: Herm (Nancy McMullen), Ebensburg; Theresa (Tom) Ricche, Altoona; James Jr. (Marjorie Bettwy), Charlestown, W.Va.; Mary (Al) Miller, Mint Hill, N.C.; Anthony, Palymra; and Joseph (Martha McCloskey), Charlestown, W.Va.; grandchildren: Marsha McGroarty, Robert Clauto, Jeanine Mancuso, Chrysa Wyland, Sandra Hanlon, David Ricche, Brian Clauto and Nicole Muir; 18 great-grandchildren; and these brothers and sisters: Helen Seder, Carnegie; Stella DuBulis, Gallitzin; Mary (John) Dzaibo, Enola; Nellie Reagan, Gallitzin; and Theresa Conrad, Coupon. Wanda was a homemaker and a deeply spiritual person. Former worker at Publix and Holly Vent Shirt Factories in Gallitzin. Member of St. Demetrius Catholic Church, Gallitzin, where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday, the Rev. Albert Ledoux, celebrant. Committal, St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Gibbons Funeral Home, 301 Church St., Gallitzin, where a vigil service will be held at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Carmelite Monastery, Loretto in Wanda’s memory.
