TANTORNO– Joseph “Taranch,” 83, Laurel Wood Nursing Center, Johnstown, formerly of Windber, died Oct. 1, 2008. Born Dec. 26, 1924, in Windber, son of the late Biaggio and Cecilia (Lucckkatta) Tantorno. Also preceded in death by brothers, Alex and Raymond; half-brothers, Frank, Fred and Pete; and halfsisters, Josephine Monzi, Mary Conner and Rose Bragherie; and fiancee, Dorothy “Mae” Stiffler. Brother of Robert, Michael and Catherine Tantorno. Beloved uncle to caregiver, Anne (Stiffler), wife of Todd Moyer, Salix, and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe worked as a bartender for many years in the Windber area. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Recipient of Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Avid Steelers fan. Member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Windber, where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, TOR Franciscans. Commital, church cemetery. Military graveside rite by Windber Post 4795 VFW.
