BALLOW – James R., 70, Mechanicsburg, formerly of Johnstown, son of the late John and Helen (Kesslak) Ballow. Born June 30, 1938, in Johnstown. Died Oct. 7, 2008, after a short stay at Claremont Nursing Home in Carlisle, Pa. Survived by loving wife, the former Catherine (Yonick) Ballow, who for many years cared and nursed James during his long illness. Also survived by children, Wendy Simmons, Michelle Ballow and David Ballow, all of California, and grandson, Matthew Simmons. Retired employee of General Services Administration for the state of Pennsylvania. Attended Greater Johnstown High School and University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. He was an avid historian and collector and seller of antique postcards. He had flea market stands at Silver Springs Township and Middletown, Pa. Member of American Philatelic Society, Capitol City Philatelic Society, West Shore Stamp Club and Temple Beth Shalom in Mechanicsburg. Because of James’ witty and jovial nature, he was well liked by friends, neighbors and co-workers. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., Broad Street, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Rabbi Irvin Brandwein officiating. Committal, Grandview Cemetery.
