PULEO – Irene C. “Newt,” 80, of Liberty Twp., passed away Jan. 24, 2008, after residing until her death at her home. Irene was born Feb. 18, 1927, in Spangler, to the late Joseph and Catherine Ponchak Wargo. Irene spent 27 productive years with Packard Electric, retiring in 1991. Irene was an active member of St. Rose Church and her neighborhood prayer association. Irene had a love for gardening. She will be missed by her current dog, Molly, and all her other dogs she referred to as her “girlfriends.” Irene is survived by her children, Dominic (Rhonda) Puleo Jr., Richmond Va.; Irene C. (Raymond) Leonhard, Williamsfield, Ohio; Kathryn (Chester) Plant, Poland; Donna (Joseph) Major; Girard, Ohio; Peter (Patty) Puleo, Gustavus Ohio; sisters, Margaret Young, Taylor Mich.; Joann Babyak, Poland; and Ester Gergely, Ebensburg; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Dominic Puleo Sr., whom she married April 21, 1938, and who died Sept. 12, 1990; an infant son; a grandson, Peter Puleo Jr.; and two sisters, Bertha Yeaglin and Delores Patrick. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29 at Blackstone’s Funeral Home, Girard, Ohio, where visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Internment, Churchill Cemetery.
