Bill to drop ‘jobs tax’ approved by House

HARRISBURG – A measure pushed by state Rep. Dave Reed, R-Indiana, to eliminate the corporate “jobs tax’’ has passed the state House.

“Pennsylvania is one step closer to eliminating its jobs tax,” Reed said. “That means we’re one step closer to more jobs with better pay for our workers.”

Reed’s amendment would overhaul the state corporate net income tax formula, which now assesses employers based on their property, sales and payroll. Reed said the payroll component discourages employers from adding jobs and giving raises.

He said out-of-state employers also are discouraged from relocating to Pennsylvania and bringing in high-paying jobs.

The bill now goes to the Senate.
