George Berkley

BERKLEY – George “Bud,” 83, Upper Yoder Township, died Oct. 11, 2008, at Crichton Rehabilitation Center. Born Jan. 16, 1925, in Johnstown, son of George and Myra (Seese) Berkley. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Violet Rimer, Esther Fritz and Wilma Wendel; and brother, Carman Berkley. Last member of the immediate family. Survived by wife, Agnes (Saly), whom he married on June 28, 1949; children, Karen, and husband, Chris Sheridan, Johnstown; Kevin Berkley, and fiancee, Lynn Phillips, Johnstown; Brian Berkley, and wife, Susan, Carlisle; Susan, and husband, Steve Gvozden, Murraysville; and Diane, and husband, Paul Baronner, Altoona; and 11 grandchildren, Shawn Sheridan, and wife, Meghan; Kevin Sheridan, and fiancee, Jen LaCount; Matthew, Michael, Stephen and Elizabeth Sheridan; Amanda and Kaitlyn Gvozden; and Hannah, Jared and Nathan Baronner. Life member of Roxbury Church of the Brethren, VFW, American Legion, TREA, Fleet Reserve and a 32nd Degree Mason. Served for 20 year in the U.S. Navy during World War II and also served 27 years in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He retired from Bethlehem Steel in 1985. Friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Roxbury Church of the Brethren, the Rev. Brian N. Simmons officiating. Entombment, Grandview Mausoleum.
