SMITH – Alberta Louise (Coles), 90, Portage, went home to her Lord Oct. 22, 2008, at her home. Born May 20, 1918, in Old Forge, daughter of William and Marguerite Coles. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Howard W. Smith Sr.; sisters, Muriel Smith and Dolores Walls; and brother, Roy Coles. Survived by daughter, Cheryl, wife of Frank Boback; son, Howard W. (Millie) Smith Jr.; grandchildren, Nicole Anne Deimel, Elaine Trzeciak, Bridget Woods, Hope Dorey and Howard W. Smith III; great-grandchildren, Lydia, Eddie, Melanie, Julia, Steven, Kierstin, Howard W. IV and Amelia; brothers-in-law, William (Dolores) Walls and Ted (Alberta) Smith; sisters-in-law, Theda Green and Ruth Smith; and special friends, Rhea Costello and Ruth Woods. Member of Portage Senior Citizens, Portage Firemen’s Auxiliary and United Methodist Women. Alberta was a lifelong devoted member of her church, and took great care to live her Christian values every day. The love of God was first and foremost in her life. From His rich love, flowed her rich desire to put others and their care before her own. The Bible was her greatest comfort. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her tremendous joy and happiness. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Dennis C. Beck Funeral Home, Portage. Funeral service at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Portage, the Rev. Michael Long. Entombment, Forest Lawn Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or Portage Volunteer Fire Company.
