Maggie Lucas scored 26 points to lead No. 12 Penn State over No. 24 Texas A&M 66-58 on Sunday.

Penn State (7-3) got 14 points from Ariel Edwards and Tori Waldner pulled in 11 rebounds.

Texas A&M (6-3) was led by Courtney Walker with 20 points while Tori Scott had 14.

The Lady Lions scored the first 12 points of the game, and the Aggies didn't score until 10:57 of the frame. But A&M went on a 13-2 run to pull within one and tied it up at 15 on a pair of Rachel Mitchell free throws.

Penn State went on an 11-1 run at the end of the half to hold a two point lead at halftime.

Penn State came out hot after the intermission, using a 9-2 run to stretch the lead to nine, and the Lady Lions never lost the lead again.

The Aggies used four straight points to draw back within five at 39-34, with all four points coming from sophomore guard Walker.

Over the next nine minutes, neither team could grab control, as the Aggies narrowly outscored the Lady Lions 12-11 to cut the Penn State lead to 50-46 with just over seven minutes remaining.

Trailing by four, Mitchell knocked down a jumper to cut the Lady Lion lead in half to two points (50-48), but once again Penn State denied the Aggies.

Lucas scored the game’s next five points with two makes from the foul line followed by her first 3 of the afternoon.

Talia East followed by hitting a jumper in the paint, and Edwards capped off the Lady Lions’ 9-0 run by converting two free throws, pushing the lead to double digits at 59-48 with a little more than two minutes remaining.

The Aggies scored the next six points off back-to-back 3-pointers, cutting Penn State’s lead to 61-56 with a minute left. But, that was as close as the visitors could get.

Penn State outscored the Aggies 5-2 with all five points coming from the free throw line in the final 52 seconds to secure the victory.
