Triathlon

Johnstown YMCA to hold event today

The Johnstown YMCA Triathlon will begin at 8 a.m. today at the YMCA.

The competition will include a 400-meter swim, a 35-kilometer bike ride, and a 5-kilometer run.

The swimming event will be held at the YMCA pool, with action in six lanes.

The bike race and running event each will begin and finish at the YMCA, 100 Haynes Street, Johnstown.

An awards presentation is set for 1 p.m.

Golf

Wolfe wins Greater Johnstown Junior

Sunnehanna Country Club’s Mac Wolfe won the Greater Johnstown Junior tournament by shooting a 4-under 67 during Friday’s final round at Berkley Hills’ Johnstown Municipal Course to finish with a 297.

Wolfe finished eight strokes better than runner-up Phil Keilman (305) of Berkley Hills. Berkley’s Brady Moran was third at 338, followed by Windber Country Club’s Adam Mihalko (343) and Sunnehanna’s Dan Wolfe (345) in the top 5.

Wolfe’s score on Friday was the low round of the entire four-day tournament. He and Keilman had tied for the low score on Thursday with a 7-over 77 at Sunnehanna Country Club. Wolfe had a 74 in the second round and an opening-day 79.

Berkley Hills claimed the team title with a four-day 960, which was 30 strokes better than runner-up Sunnehanna (990). Windber was third at 1,056.

Soccer

Trojans boys soccer sets conditioning

First-year Greater Johnstown High School boys soccer coach Mickey Varner will conduct a conditioning program beginning on July 27.

Varner said the program is open to all Johnstown boys at the high school and middle school level. The conditioning program will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Trojans Stadium.

Rain pushes 3 games back to today

Afternoon rain showers resulted in the postponement of all three AAABA League games on Friday.

The games will be made up today at Point Stadium.

The City of Johnstown Food Drive originally scheduled for Friday at the Point will take place today.

Fans bringing a non-perishable food item to the Point will receive a $1 discount at any of the three AAABA League games.

The Highland Bulldogs are scheduled to play league-leading Delweld at 10 a.m.

Roxberry Creamery will face Martella’s Pharmacy at 12:30 p.m.

The tripleheader closes with Principle Development playing Berkley Hills Renegades at 3 p.m.

A fourth baseball game will be held at the Point today.

The Johnstown Pony League Championship series will begin at 5:30 p.m. as regular-season champion B. Hale Boilers (22-0) will play 1st Summit Bank (16-7) in Game 1 of a best-of-3 series.

Game 2 also will be at the Point at 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Game 3, if necessary, would return to Roxbury Park on Monday.

Late Thursday

Renegades 12, Roxberry 2

Dan Norris had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs and scored twice as the Berkley Hills Renegades defeated Roxberry Creamery on Thursday at Roxbury Park.

Dan Gray had a hit, drove in two runs and scored once. Bobby Mroskey scored three runs.

Paul Tunink tossed a seven-hitter while striking out four and walking none.

Roxberry’s Paul Destefano had two hits.
