Local Baseball Briefs 7/12/2009

Martella’s Pharmacy 5 Roxberry Creamery 3
Steve Bills went 2-for-4 and scored a run, and Chris Rasky drove in a run and scored once as Martella’s Pharmacy defeated Roxberry Creamery at the Point.
Bobby Helman pitched six innings, allowing two hits and striking out six for the winners. Roxberry’s Ty Holderbaum drove in a pair of runs.
Martella’s Pharmacy 11 Highland Bulldogs 0 (5)
In the completion of a game that started on June 26, Martella’s Pharmacy defeated Highland Bulldogs in five innings.
Sam Watkins went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, one run and two RBIs. Jordan Kaufman went 2-for-4 with a run and one run batted in. Chris Rasky had two hits, two runs and drove in a run. Mike LeViseur went 3-for-3 with two runs and one run batted in. Mike Pelekanos went
2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run.
Evan Gazza went 3-for-3, including his 100th career hit, and scored a run while driving in two. Zack Boyd was the winner, allowing only two infield singles.
Renegades 3
Highland Bulldogs 1
Matt Gehret pitched a complete-game one-hitter, striking out 15 batters and walking one, as Berkley Hills Renegades defeated the Highland Bulldogs in an afternoon game at Point Stadium. Gehret didn’t allow an earned run.
John Fees and Sean McDonald each had two hits for the Renegades, who clinched a playoff spot with the victory.
Ethan Boyd had the Bulldogs’ lone hit.
Principle 6, Renegades 3
Principle Development’s Matt Donaldson went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one batted in during a victory over the Berkley Hills Renegades in the final leg of a four-game set at the Point. Principle clinched a playoff spot and moved into third place.
Principle’s Andy Rubal went 2-for-3 and drove in a run. Matt Snyder struck out six while scattering nine hits. He overcame the Renegades’ three-run first inning. Berkley Hills had four of its nine hits in the frame.
Snyder struck out two batters with the bases loaded to end the threat.
Sean McDonald went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Renegades. Mike Kastelic went 2-for-4 with one run batted in.
Late Friday
Renegades 10
Martella’s 9 (9)
The Renegades scored the game-winning run in the top of the ninth on Dan Gray’s squeeze bunt in a victory over Martella’s Pharmacy in Friday’s late game at Point Stadium.
Dan Norris went 3-for-5 with a double, a homer, two runs and two RBIs. Drew Shaulis went 3-for-6 with three runs and one run batted in.
John Fees had two hits, a run and two RBIs. Ben Doak doubled and drove in a pair. Kyle Bowser had two hits and drove in a run.
Sam Watkins drove in two runs and Jordan Kaufman had two hits and two RBIs for Martella’s. Steve Bills had two hits and scored once.
Kyle Bowser picked up the win for the Renegades. Watkins took the loss on the mound for Martella’s, who stranded runners on the corners in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Principle Development 17 Highland Bulldogs 2
Principle Development broke open a close game with six runs in the sixth inning then exploded for 10 more in the top of the seventh in the late Friday game from Roxbury.
Matt Stahl blasted a grand slam in the seventh for Principle while Matt Donaldson hit a two-run home run in the sixth and had four RBIs.
Andy Rubal was 2-for-3 for Principle Development.
Winning pitcher Eric Nalisnick allowed just three hits, striking out six and walking three.
