School district weights renovation choices

With the ink barely dry on a 2-mill property tax increase, Central Cambria school district officials now are testing options for a new or renovated middle school, meaning another tax hike as high as 10 mills.
The school board wants to close the middle school in the county seat’s historic section on Highland Avenue in the fall of 2007, and eventually sell it.

But the group received 177 entries representing 10 area schools. And the AAUW instead had the good problem of sifting through numerous strong essays to select six winners in two age categories.

Former world-class gymnast Kristal Uzelac, 19, of St. Michael knows the value of a massage and that was instrumental in her decision to enroll at Laurel Highlands Therapeutic Academy to become a certified massage therapist. The school, which is owned and operated by Becky SanGregorio of Ebensburg, is located at 3135 New Germany Road in the Ebensburg Mini-Mall.
Students of industry: Chestnut Ridge club molds business leaders
Melissa McDonald has 150 students whom she considers to be her children. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, McDonald is an adviser for the Chestnut Ridge Future Business Leaders of America club – the largest extracurricular organization in the district.
