RELIGION IN BRIEF | St. Thomas picnic today at church grove

The 106th annual St. Thomas Community Picnic Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. today at the church grove, 1371 Ridge Road, Hooversville.
Sunday school members will lead a parade, followed by a morning program led by the primary department.
Lunch will be served at noon at the outdoor stands and a traditional roast beef sandwich supper will be served from 4 to 6:30.
A talent show and karaoke will begin at 1:30, followed by Hank, a two-person team sporting skills event, at 2:30.
The Rev. Krista Vingelis will open the evening program at 7, featuring Crossover, a Southern Gospel group from Mahaffey, Clearfield County.
The Rev. Fred Schilling will deliver the message at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service.
Sunday school will begin at 9:15 a.m., featuring Crossover.
Pastor will speak at Roxbury church
The Rev. Brian N. Simmons, pastor of Roxbury Church of the Brethren, 112 Sell St., Johnstown, will deliver the sermon “Compassion,” based on Matthew 15:21-28, at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service.
Robert Stevens will be the guest pianist.
Sunday school will begin at 9:30 a.m.
A vesper service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at the church grove along Somerset Pike, Route 985.

Mount Sinai plans anniversary event
Mount Sinai Institutional Baptist Church, 111 Cambria St., Conemaugh, will hold its 90th anniversary celebration at 3 p.m. Sunday.
The Rev. Dewvaul Tracy Jr. of Beulah Baptist Church in Smithfield, Fayette County, will deliver the message.
Praise, worship set at Seward park
A public praise and worship seervice, featuring Scott and Trish Fyock and Debbie Penrose, will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Seward Memorial Park, Indiana Street.
SonShiners’ picnic at Yellow Creek park
Members of the SonShiners of the Ferndale United Methodist Church, 701 Vickroy Ave., Johnstown, will hold their annual picnic for the seniors group and fellowship on Tuesday at Yellow Creek State Park.
The group will depart from the church at 10 a.m. and return at 4 p.m.
