FERN YARNICK | The lowly spider

If you are like me, you believe that spiders are good-for-nothing pests. However, both of us are wrong.

Watch the insect and you will find that God created the spider with the ability to create a home and find its food.

Like creatures large and small, the spider uses much of its time working very hard.

Flies and most bugs are much too fast for the insect to snag, so it uses its God-given abilities to build a home and catch a tasty meal.

First, the spider releases a sticky, silken thread, hoping the wind will carry it to the right spot.

If the thread takes hold, the spider walks back and forth on the thread, reinforcing the line until it is strong. One line after another is created until the web’s frame is constructed.

Now, all that is needed is to make a circular path around the frame. At last, the silk threads hold strong, completing the web. Keeping its head down, the spider moves to the middle of its home and waits.

Ah, success at last.

A fly is caught in the sticky web. Wasting no time, the spider hurries to the struggling fly and wraps it with a sticky substance. When the fly succumbs, the spider moves to its prey and enjoys a tasty meal.

Amazing you say? Not really.

If you know anything about the Bible, you know that God gives you and me much more abilities than that.

James 1:5 mentions that we only need to ask for wisdom and God will give it to us.

Why struggle with problems when God promises to help us overcome adversity?
