Eucharistic Day set in Cambria City
A Lenten Eucharistic Day will be held Sunday at St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church, 414 Fourth Ave. in the Cambria City section of Johnstown.
The service will begin after the 10:30 a.m. Mass.
It will end with vespers and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at 6:30 p.m., with the Rev. Ananias Buccicone, OSB, pastor of Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Patton, as the guest homilist.
Roxbury pastor to deliver message
The Rev. Brian N. Simmons, pastor of Roxbury Church of the Brethren, 112 Sell St., Johnstown, will deliver the message, “Everlasting Life,” based on John 3: 1-17, at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service.
The cathedral choir will sing “O That Will Be Glory,” under the direction of Melanie Shiley and accompanied by Linda Beachley.
A joint Lenten service of the area Churches of the Brethren will begin with a hymn sing at 6:45 p.m. Sunday, with Simmons, host pastor, serving as the worship leader.
The Rev. William Wenger, pastor of Moxham Church of the Brethren, will deliver the message, “Christian Friends – Vessels of God’s Love,” based on I Samuel 18: 1-9 and 23: 7-18.
The Roxbury choir will sing “God Is Our Refuge and Our Strength” and “Wonderful, Merciful Savior,” under the direction of Shiley and accompanied by Arbutus Blough.
A nursery will be provided.
A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow in the social room of the church.
Charles Allison will discuss the book of Luke at the 7:15 p.m. Wednesday Bible study.
Lenten service Wednesday in Berlin
The congregations of Holy Trinity, Berlin Brethren, Trinity United Church of Christ and The Three Seasons Community Church will offer a Lenten service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 525 Main St., Berlin.
Diocese to host weekend for couples
An Engaged Couples Marriage Preparation weekend will begin at 8 p.m. Friday and end at 3 p.m. Feb. 24 at St. John the Baptist Retreat Center in New Baltimore, Somerset County.
The weekend, sponsored by the Family Life Office of the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese, fulfills the diocesan marriage preparation requirement.
Couples will spend quality time together planning their marriage, talking about communication, decision making, finances, handling disagreements and God in their marriage.
Interfaith couples are welcome.
