Bill Clinton to visit Johnstown on Wednesday

Former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to visit Johnstown on Wednesday to drum up support for his wife’s Democratic campaign battle against Sen. Barack Obama.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s presidential campaign confirmed that the nation’s 42nd president will appear at 3 p.m. at Greater Johnstown High School, 222 Central Ave.

It is billed as a “Solutions for America” event, a central theme of Clinton’s campaign.

The gathering, to be held in the school’s gymnasium, is free to the public.

Local officials have been contacted by the campaign and by the Secret Service, which provides security for Bill Clinton.

“Whatever they need, we’ll accommodate them,” Greater Johnstown Superintendent Barbara Parkins said.

Ed Cernic Sr., a Johnstown businessman and prominent local Democrat, said he hopes to attract thousands to the event.

Obama is scheduled for an appearance today in Bucks County.

Bill Clinton is expected today at events in Washington and Canonsburg in Washington County and in Center Township, Beaver County. Prior to his Johnstown stop, he will appear Wednesday morning in Erie.
