ALEX - Rose M. (Bencze), 93, of Church of the Brethren Home, Windber, passed away Sept. 13, 2007. Former member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Windber. Member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Windber, where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, the Rev. Leonard E. Voytek VF. Committal, St. Mary Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, Windber. Friends were received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and will be received from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at William Kisiel Funeral Home, Windber.

BLOUGH - Eleanor I., 78, formely of Geistown, passed away at Laurel View Village. Born June 8, 1929, in Johnstown, daughter of the late Thomas Leo and Gertrude (Mintzer) Cassidy. Preceeded in death by husband, James W. Survived by sons, Martin L., married to the former Helen Lechowicz, Mechanicsville, Va.; and Joel T., married to the former Kathy Shertzer, Richland; grandchildren, Steven R., married to the former Amanda Mock, Johnstown; Lauren L. Blough, Geis-town; and Kristina and Jeffrey Blough, both of Mechanicsville, Va.; great-grandchildren, Kieran J. Blough and Caleb W. Unger. Member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church and Geistown Ladies Auxillary. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Henderson Funeral Home, East Hills, where funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Father Richard Tomkosky. CHOPICK - Katherine M. (Ketchesin), 83, Dunlo, died Sept. 11, 2007, at home. Born Dec. 9, 1923, in Houtzdale, daughter of Joseph and Mary (Phillips) Ketchesin. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Steve; brothers, Joseph, Thomas and Michael; and sisters, Ann Chopick and Helen Nemic. Survived by her children, Katherine Troy, Loretto; Steven, Dunlo; Shirl, wife of Ron Smigla, Johnstown; Pat Posea, and companion, Barry Cigich, Johnstown; and JoAnn, wife of Tom Tubbs, Sarasota, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great- granddaughter. Sister of Mary Krenisky, Cleveland, and Walter, Ohio. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Jean H. Kinley Funeral Home, Beaverdale, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Father Albert Ledoux. Committal, Dunlo United Methodist Cemetery. FRANKE - Donald J., 73, of Wimauma, Fla., formerly of Boswell, died Sept. 13, 2007, in Sarasota, Fla. Born March 1, 1934, in Boswell, son of Joseph and Sarah (Phillips) Franke. Preceded in death by parents; son, Donald A. Franke; and sister, Joan "Sis" Sheftic. Survived by wife of 54 years, the former Ruth Lape; daughter, Diane Gowarty, Bradenton, Fla.; son, Larry, married to former Judy Flick, Boswell; grandchildren, Heather and Brian Gowarty, Dawn Rodibaugh and Kelsey Franke; great-granddaughter, Haidyn Rodibaugh; sisters, Andrea, widow of Marshall Policicchio, Boswell; Rosilie, married to Bill Miller, Denver, Colo.; and Annetta "Tootie," married to Robert Henry, Denver, Colo.; brother, William, and wife, Gertrude, Litchfield, Ill.; and brothers-in-law, Albert Lape of Jerome and Walter Sheftic of Johnstown. A 1952 graduate of former JBJ Joint High School, Boswell. Retired U.S. Army First Sgt., having served for 23 years. Co-owner of former Sheftic Amusement, Boswell. Member of St. Andrew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Boswell, and the Boswell Post 461 American Legion. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held in Boswell at a later date. FRICK - Evelyn K., 84, Atrium Manor, formerly of Ferndale since 1922, died Sept. 13, 2007. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, the Rev. Father Angelo J. Patti. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Geisel Funeral Home, Dale, where vigil for the deceased will be held Sunday.

GAVAZZONI - Adrienne M. (Shaffer)
GAVAZZONI - Adrienne M. (Shaffer), 36, Johnstown, formerly of Portage, died Sept. 14, 2007. Born Dec. 17, 1970, in Patterson, N.J., the daughter of Edward J. and Mary Ellen (Bria) Shaffer. Preceded in death by mother. Survived by father and stepmother, Edward J. and Sherry (Thomson) Shaffer, Portage; husband, Ronald S. "Scrapper" Gavazzoni, Johnstown; sons, Christopher, Shane and Zachary Krinjeck; stepson, Shane Gavazzoni; in-laws, Ronald and Shirley Gavazzoni, Ferndale; and best friend, Angela Oblinsky, Portage. A 1988 graduate of Portage Area High School and received her nurses aide education from Johnstown Vo-Tech School. Employed as a CNA for Home Nursing Agency Hospice Division-Cambria in Ebensburg. She was an avid Harley rider who participated in many charity fundraisers and poker runs. She was very dedicated to her hospice patients and will be sadly missed by her co-workers, patients, family and friends. LAMBERT - Mildred G., 75, Bridgeton, N.J., formerly of Johnstown, died Sept. 12, 2007, at Bridgeton Hospice. Born July 28, 1932, in Johnstown, daughter of the late John and Caroline (Sernak) Grassa. Preceded in death by husband, Floyd Lambert; brothers, Ed, Jack and Frank; and sisters, Helen, Mary and Ann. Survived by daughter, Cheri R. Koch, and fiance, Chris Verbano; brothers, Thomas Grassa, Johnstown; Nicholas D. Grassa, Elton; and Peter P. Grassa, Johnstown; and sisters, Caroline C. Babich and Barbara L. Bogovich, both of Johnstown, and Rosemarie A. Rogers, Elmer, N.J. Mildred enjoyed yard work, eating out and her dog Johnny and was an Air Force veteran. A retired employee for Owens Glass Factory. SHERRY - Barbara (Stiffler), 59, Carrolltown, died Sept. 13, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Nov. 28, 1947, in Johnstown, daughter of Harry and Delores (Snedden) Stiffler. Survived by partner, Charles Sergent, Carrolltown; children, Michael (Tracy) Kress, Armagh; Kimberly (Gregory) Jenkins, Nanty Glo; Renee (Richard) Miller, Patton; and Shawn (Denise) Kress, Garretsville, Ohio; grandchildren, Michael Kress, Mandee and Tyler Jenkins, Devonn Arotin, Cameron and Ciearra Miller and Tryvor and Hailey Kress; and parents, Nanty Glo. Survived by parents of Mundys Corner; brother, Jason Scott, and wife, Kelly, of Pittsburgh; niece, Trinity Hope Snyder, Strongstown; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Graduate of Central Cambria High School. SOWERBROWER - Frederick J., 61, of Elton, passed away on Sept. 14, 2007, at Windber Hospice. Son of Charles W. and A. Mildred (Leaper) Sowerbrower. Preceded in death by his parents; siblings, William Leaper and Marjorie Seminsky; and infant siblings, Charles and Janet Sowerbrower. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 40 years, the former Linda Gearhart, whom he married Sept. 23, 1967, in Elton; a son, James F., married to the former Lynn Ann Podrebarac, Latrobe; a daughter, Susan Lynn Sowerbrower, Elton; granddaughter, Jacquelyn Ann Sowerbrower, Latrobe; mother-in-law, Ida Gearhart, Elton; siblings, Edward, married to Evelyn, Johnstown; Beverly Penrod, Johnstown; Arnold "Dean," married to Delores, Jacksonville, Ark.; Raymond, married to Sherry, Johnstown; Margaret "Peg," wife of Clayton Irish, Gladwin, Mich.; Doris Sowerbrower, Johnstown; Judith, wife of Daniel Ritchey, Johnstown; Ronald, married to Patricia, Johnstown; and Donald, married to Deborah, Deltona, Fla.; sister-in-law, Shirley Leaper, Levittown, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Fred was a member of Dunmyer Lutheran Church, where he was an active committee and council member for many years. He retired after 30 years of service from Moxham National Bank. Fred enjoyed the outdoors, planting flowers, gardening and spent the majority of his time with his family and friends. Fred was an exceptionally devoted husband, father and grandfather, who gave unselfishly of himself. He especially loved the time spent with his granddaughter, Jackie. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Dunmyer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Nila Cogan officiating. Interment will be held at Dunmyer Lutheran Cemetery.
