BAKER - Catherine A., 91, Patton, passed away Sept. 5, 2007, at home. She was born Dec. 24, 1915, in Wales. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Baker, and four sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Stevens Funeral Home Inc., 146 N. Main St., Carrolltown, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. BEZEK -?Joseph John, 76, Lake of Woods, Va., formerly of Brownstown, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at INOVA, Fairfax Hospital. Mr. Bezek was a graduate of Ferndale High School in Brownstown, and a graduate of St. Francis University in Loretto, where he played football for both schools. He was a retired high school English teacher and football coach at Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, Md. He was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Bezek also was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Brenden Council in Ocean Isle Beach, N.C. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth A. Bezek, and three daughters, Joanna Bezek, Locust Grove, Va.; Nancy E. Piekarski, and her husband, Chuck, Ashburn, Va.; and Carol A. Hensley, and her husband, James, Leesburg, Va. He also is survived by his mother, Anna Dutko Bezek, Johnstown; two sisters, Dorothy McCabe, Johnstown, and Evelyn Szala, York; and four grandchildren, Laura and Sarah Piekarski and J.J. and Patrick Hensley. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at noon. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Laurel Hill Funeral Home in Spotsylvania, Va., and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the departure for the church. BORSI - Dorothy M., 93, formerly of South Fork, died Sept. 5, 2007, in Woodstock, Va. Born Sept. 2, 1914, in South Fork, daughter of John and Annie (Jarvie) Waters. Preceded in death by parents and sister, Marion C. Roberts. Survived by daughter, Linda, wife of Terry McClelland, Edinburg, Va.; grandsons, Michael, and his wife, Sharon, Stafford, Va., and Kevin, and his wife, Mandy, Fredericksburg, Va.; and eight great-grandchildren. Dorothy was a secretary at the former South Fork-Croyle and Triangle schools and retired from Forest Hills Elementary School after 23 years. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, South Fork. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Monday at Charles O. CARR - Jayne Cummings, Lynchburg, Va., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, after a brief illness. Jayne was born on Dec. 8, 1934, in Cresson, and resided in Philadelphia before moving to Lynchburg where she raised her family. In addition to her parents, William and Catherine Cummings, she was preceded in death by sister, Ann Cummings, Baltimore, and a brother. Jayne was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, and was a retired teachers aide for the Lynchburg School System, where she satisfied her love of children. She will be sadly missed by her loving family, son, John Michael Haruch, and his wife, Judy, and granddaughter, Lorrisa Bates, all of Midlothian, Va.; daughter, Nadine C. Allen, and her husband, James, Lynchburg; and son, Edward Joseph Carr III, and his wife, Teresa, Forest, Va. Funeral service will be conducted in Lynchburg. DISHONG -?Edward H. Sr., 76, Northern Cambria, and formerly of Commodore, died on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center. The son of Harry David and Ethel E. (Bouch) Dishong, he was born on July 6, 1931, in Green Township, Indiana County. Mr. Dishong was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Northern Cambria, where he served on the church council. He was a Korean War veteran who was a corporal in the Army. Mr. Dishong was a coal miner with Barnes -- Tucker 20 Mine and he was a member of the UMWA Local 1269. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW Post 710, both of Northern Cambria. He attended the Senior Citizens Activity Center of Northern Cambria. An outdoorsmen, he enjoyed spending time fishing, hunting and camping. Mr. Dishong married his wife, Janet F. Rummell, on June 28, 1958. He is survived by his wife of 49 years; his children, Jeannie Dishong, Penn Run; Nancy Dishong, Cherry Tree; Ed Dishong Jr., Harrisburg; Peggy Dishong, Patton; and Scott Dishong, Northern Cambria; four grandchildren, Jr. Davis, Christopher Davis, Nathan Green and Ashley Green; two great-grandsons, Brayden and Mason Davis; and his nephew, Timothy Blatt, Indiana. Mr. Dishong was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Esther (Dishong) Blatt and Marion Dishong. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at Rairigh Funeral Home Ltd., Hillsdale. ESTEP - Sydnie Nicole, 10, Cresson, died Sept. 5, 2007, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Munster Township. Born Oct. 3, 1996, in Cresson, daughter of Allen and Mary E. (Murray) Estep. Preceded in death by grandparents, Leo and Mary Ann Murray and Leelan Estep, and cousin, Tyler Montgomery. Survived by parents; brothers, Craig and Joseph; and grandmother, Aline Estep, all of Cresson. Also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Fifth-grade student at Penn Cambria Middle School. Loved animals, especially her dog, "Rusty" and hamster, "Crazy," swimming and gymnastics. What she loved the most was spending time with her brothers, cousins and two close friends, Miranda Reed and Kassidy Kreutsberger. Survived by parents; sister, Alyssa; grandmother, Aline Estep; and Ken "Pap" and Gail Behe, all of Cresson; and grandparents, June Graham (Andrew), California, and Larry Montgomery (Elsie), Newton Hamilton. Also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, very close friends, and family dog, "Casey." Eighth-grade student at Penn Cambria Middle School. Member of Cresson Alliance Church, where he belonged to the Kids Klub and Youth Group and worked in the nursery and Bible school. Loved to hunt and fish with his dad, eating junk food, playing video games, four-wheeling and being with his family and friends. Private family viewing. SKINNER - Betty Marie, 87, formerly of Johnstown, passed away Sept. 4, 2007, at Church of the Brethren Home. Born April 10, 1920, in Johnstown, daughter of the late D.D. and Mayme (Kniss) Dunkle. Preceded in death by brother, Dr. Donald Dunkle, and sister, Vivian Grazier. Survived by children, Dianne, married to Frank Schramko, Frankfort, Ill., and Donald D. "Skip," married to Jane, Stem, N.C.; grandmother of six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and devoted longtime friend, Mel Horner. Member of Westmont Church of the Brethren, president of the Cambria County Dental Auxiliary, president of the Westmont PTA and manager at the former Bethlehem Management Club. She played an active role in the activities at the Church of the Brethren Home community in Windber, where she had lived for the past five years. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave., the Rev. Warren Lewis and Pastor Robert L. Rummel. Inurnment, Grandview Cemetery. SPANGLER TRIPLETT -?Verna E., 93, Somerset, formerly of Stoystown, died Sept. 6, 2007, at The Patriot. Born Oct. 22, 1913, in Stoystown, the daughter of Joseph O. and Ivy M. (Austin) Spangler. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Stanley; brother, Wayne; and sister-in-law, Helen M. Spangler. Survived by brother, Neil, married to the former Eileen Peterson, Frederick, Md.; niece, Sylvia Leichter, Santa Maria, Calif.; nephews, Glenn (Ella) Spangler, San Diego, Calif.; Mark Spangler, Millersville, Md.; Gary Spangler, Pasadena, Md.; and Eric Spangler, Bear, Del.; and close friend, Peggy Ankeny, Somerset. She retired from the advertising department for The Tribune-Democrat and attended St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Stoystown. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking and writing poetry.
