BARAN - Joan I., 73, Patton, died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, surrounded by her three children and several family members. Joan was born Dec. 14, 1933, in Spangler, caring daughter of the late Joseph and Ida (McConnell) Bertison. Preceded in death by beloved husband, George Baran, and sister, Barbara Cence. She was the loving mother of Georgine (Rod) Rusnak, Rochester, N.Y.; Margaret (Kevin) Petak, Manassas Park, Va.; and Joseph (Arlette) Baran, Pittsburgh, and grandmother to Corey, Melody, Andrea, Kyle, Katie and Molly. Also survived by sisters, Dorothy (Paul) McNulty, Altoona, and Margaret (Ron) Lipin, Madison, Ohio, and brother-in-law, Pat Cence, Patton. At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing. Divine Liturgy will be sung at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 at St. Peter -- Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Patton, the Rev. Oliver Hebert officiating. Committal at church cemetery. BERKEBILE - Thomas Boyce Sr. "Boyce," 63, Windber, was released from his life and flew away to be with the Lord on Sept. 3, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center. Born May 5, 1944, in Tarentum, son of the late Thomas P. and Virginia (Horner) Berkebile. Survived by these children: Thomas B. Berkebile Jr., Windber; Shari, wife of Brett Sipe, North Carolina; Brian J. Berkebile, married to the former Theresa Bartolomucci, Texas; Saundra, wife of Ken Gathagan, Windber; Tina Harp, North Carolina; Jill, wife of Rick Campitell, Windber; John Baird, Johnstown; Dianna, wife of Dennis Petimezas, Richland; and Kim Maluchnik, Windber, and grandchildren, Brett Sipe; Thomas B. Berkebile III; Nicole Berkebile; Derek Berkebile; Jacob Berkebile; Joshua Puricelli (Gathagan); Adalyna Campitell; Stephen Campitell; Jaimey Harp; Hannah Harp; Buddy Harp; Tomi Lynn Maluchnik; Alex Maluchnik; Kylee Berkhimer; Evan Crist, Lynsay Crist; and Amber Baird. Also survived by sister, Joyce Austin. Thomas was a former employee of Bethlehem Steel, Rod and Wire Division, Johnstown. He loved the outdoors and life, his children and grandchildren by whom he will be sadly missed and remembered. Family will receive friends on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at which time the funeral service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Thursday evening at William Kisiel Funeral Home, Windber, the Rev. BROSCH - Philip M., 55, Johnstown, formerly of Revloc, died Sept. 4, 2007, at home. Born Aug. 13, 1952, in Johnstown, son of Herman and Hattie (Camitses) Brosch. Preceded in death by parents. Survived by stepdaughter, Katherine Doubt, and these brothers and sister, Gary, Michael, Carlene Ford and James. No public viewing or visitation. DONALD - Hershel
DONALD - Hershel, born in Plateau, Ala., on Jan. 12, 1926, to the union of Leo Donald Sr. and Dr. Iona Adams-Donald-Jones, Ph.D. He was the grandson of Nelson Adams Sr. "Papa" and Dora Woods-Adams, Plateau, Ala. He was an Army veteran. Hershel spent most of his adult professional life in Monessen, Pa., with the Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Co. and then he was promoted to an executive labor negotiating position with the International Steel Workers of America. He served on the Board of Directors at Pennsylvania Blue Shield for many years. Hershel was a devoted member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church, and served on the Board of Trustees. In addition, Hershel served on many other professional and charitable organizations. Hershel Donald married Gloria (Simpson) Donald, Monessen, Pa., and to that union was born three daughters, including, Willetta Coleman, Harrisburg; Toni Williams, Harrisburg; and Jacqueline Webb, Johnstown, and Herschelle Donald, Johnstown. Hershel also is survived by his daughter, Angela Wade-Bacon. Hershel's sons-in-law include, Ronald Coleman, Johnstown, and Perry Williams, Atlanta, Ga. His grandchildren include, Nichelle Coleman, Harrisburg; Takia Donald, Harrisburg; Alisa Donald, Johnstown; Racquelle Coleman, Johnstown; Ronald Coleman, Johnstown; Blake Donald, Johnstown; and David Allen Bacon Jr. He is survived by great-grandchildren, including, Alana Donald, Johnstown; Nia McLamb, Harrisburg; Isis Donald, Johnstown; and Leawine Donald, Johnstown. Hershel also is survived by two siblings, Doris Jones-Boddie, Sacramento, Calf., and Herbert Jones, Country Club Hills, Ill. He was precede death by brothers, Leo Donald Jr., Frank Jones Jr. and Nelson "Nels" Jones; sisters, Vivian Jones-Odom, Sacramento; Dora Jones; Lucille Jones-Downing; and a twin that died at birth. Hershel also is survived by a host of relatives and devoted friends, which include Theodore Hardison and the Clayborne family. He will be greatly missed by all. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave., and from noon until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Sinai Baptist Church, the Rev. J. Hunter. Interment, Grandview Cemetery.

JONES - Nancy E., 92, Elmora, died Sept. 5, 2007, at home. Born April 18, 1915, in Bakerton, daughter of Bryson and Sarah (Byron) James. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Argust B. Jones, who died Sept. 8, 1976; brothers, Harold, Kenneth, Byron and Bryson James; sister, Louise Davenport; and two infant siblings. Survived by children, Nancy, wife of Edward C. Sterling, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; Robert (Barbara) Jones, Lutherville, Md.; and William "Bill" (Elaine) Jones, Elmora; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Sister of Edith and Margaret James, both of Elmora, and Robert (Mayme) James, Baltimore, Md. Member of Spangler United Methodist Church. RAYMOND - Ethel
RAYMOND - Ethel, 93, East Taylor Township, passed on Sept. 4, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center. She was born on June 30, 1914, in Morrisdale, daughter of Frank and Barbara (Kerkes) Wido. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John J. Raymond; sisters, Elizabeth Raymond and Bertha Oberacker; and brothers, Steve, Frank Jr., George and John. She is survived by her son, Dean, married to the former Joyce Burns, Sanford, Fla.; granddaughter, Donna, wife of Adam Budynski, Orlando, Fla.; sister, Helen Johnson, Akron, Ohio; a brother, Lewis Wido, Dubois; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Ethel was a member of Summit Chapel United Methodist Church and its Women's Society and the Friendly Hand Sunday school class. She also was a 14-year volunteer at the Chamber of Commerce. At Ethel's request, there will be no public viewing. Friends are invited to attend a public memorial service at 6 p.m. Saturday at Summit Chapel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Zimmerman officiating. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family at The Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, Conemaugh, with the Rev. Penny Adams officiating. Interment will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. RODRIQUEZ - Mrs. Alice, 68, Windber, passed away Sept. 4, 2007, at home. Born Oct. 21, 1938, in Franklin County, Va., daughter of Noel and Okie (Shorter) Yopp. Preceded in death by parents; daughter, Wanda Rodriquez; infant daughter, Angela Rodriquez; and sisters, Christie-Belle Yopp and Emma Sue Toney. Survived by husband, Trinidad; son, Fred Barrick, married to the former Karen Bossi, Windber; daughter, Maria, wife of Ted DeGraffenreid, Romulus, Mich., and Jose Rodriquez, and partner, Paul Smith, Orlando, Fla.; and grandchildren, Raymond Barrick, and wife Jessica; Steph Barrick; Kayla Rodriquez-Vera; Omar Pantojas; Somerton DeGraffenreid; and Azarel DeGraffenreid. Also sisters, Sarah Swihart, Geraldine Stegall, Joyce Jones, Mary Broughman, Barbara Grimes, Diane Wright, Vicky Adams and Darlene Irby, and brothers, Malvin Yopp, Wilbert Yopp, James Yopp, Henry Yopp, Winston Yopp and Charles Yopp. Alice enjoyed sewing and spending time with her grandchildren. She attended Calvary United Methodist Church, Windber, where funeral service will be held Friday at noon. SALYAN - Henry C., 87, Geneva, Ohio, died Sept. 2, 2007. Born Nov. 16, 1919, in Windber. He had resided in Willowick, Ohio, since 1959. Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at St. Mary Magdalene Church, 460 E. 321st St., Willowick. He was a member of Willoughby Eagles, loved to travel and enjoyed spending time with all of his grandchildren. Employed by United Parcel as a painter with 30 years of service. Survived by daughter, Georgene (Roger) Richards; son, Daniel (Michelle); eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and brothers, John and Frank. Preceded in death by beloved wife, Anna. SCHNAUBELT - Mrs. Alice J., 88, Altoona, died unexpectedly Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007, at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. She was born Jan. 14, 1919, in Sankertown, Cresson, Pa., a daughter of the late Edward A. and Mary B. (Kearns) Hammond. She married Anthony F. Schnaubelt on May 14, 1946, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Cresson. He preceded her in death Nov. 2, 1988. Mrs. Schnaubelt was a homemaker. She was a member of Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona. Alice was a 1938 graduate of Cresson High School. She was a member of Cathedral Christian Mothers and a past member of Mother Seton Guild. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching TV, gardening and playing cards. She is survived by two daughters, Jane A. Smithmyer, and her husband, Ronald, of Ebensburg, and Mary A. Leininger, and her husband, Barry, of Cumru Township, Pa.; a son, Ret. Maj. Edward F. Schnaubelt, and his wife, Patricia, of Schertz, Texas; two sisters, Catherine Byrnes and Esther Spinner, and a brother, Bernard "Red" Hammond, all of Cresson. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Brian Smithmyer, Angela Lambing, Sheila McKeta, Jessica Dickerson, Erica Wilson, Monica Schnaubelt, Stephen Leininger and Veronica Schnaubelt, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Anthony "Tony" Schnaubelt Jr.; a grandson, Edward Schnaubelt; and two brothers, Walter and James Hammond. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at Jones Funeral Home, Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona. Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
