BLUCAS – Walter “Moe,” 83, 288 Shady Oak Drive, Johnstown, Pa. 15905, formerly of Boswell, died Sept. 2, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center. Born June 23, 1924, in Ralphton, son of Peter M. and Katherine C. (Kandelski) Blucas. Preceded in death by parents; wife of 57 years, former Alice Phillips, on Sept. 25, 2005; sisters, Victoria Blucas, Josephine Meholic, Catherine Nedrow and Frances Zellam; and brothers, Stanley, Staff Sgt. Michael, killed in action during WWII; Joseph, John, Henry and Edward Blucas. Survived by children, Walter J. “Wally,” Girard, Pa.; Stephen P., married to former Johnette Pullig, Ruston, La.; Marilyn, married to Gary Tempalski, Pittsburgh; and Barbara A., married to Roy Motley, Johnstown; grandchildren, Kristen and Marc Blucas, Phillip and Melanie Blucas, Ryan Tempalski, and Caitlin and Abby Motley; sisters, Mary, married to Mike Cook, Howe, Mich., and Stella Bauerle, Indianapolis, Ind.; brother, Ted, Levittown; and numerous nieces and nephews. U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WWII, having served in the Pacific Theater of Operations, where he participated in the Battle of Iwo Jima. Member of All Saints Catholic Parish and the UMWA. Longest continuous member of the Boswell Post 461 American Legion, with 61 years of membership. Retired coal miner for Island Creek Coal Co. with 33 years of service. In retirement, he enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden, collecting coins and playing cards, especially pinochle with family and friends at social gatherings. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Viewing from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main St., Boswell, where vigil for the deceased will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Friday at All Saints Church, Boswell, the Rev. Fr. Michael Lewandowski, OFM Conv., celebrant. Committal, SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Jerome, with graveside military rites. KINLEY – James E., 76, Johnstown, passed away Sept. 2, 2007, at home. Born April 12, 1931, in Johnstown, son of the late Joseph F. and Helena G. (Bender) Kinley. Preceded in death by brothers, J. Paul and Francis E. Survived by wife of 47 years, the former Barbara Fern Irvin; beloved children and grandchildren, Kathy, married to Chris Kantner, and their children, Sara and Alex; Tom, and children, Ben, Ryan and Michael; Mike, married to Liz Stein, and their children, Laura and Emily; Anne, married to Don Zolnosky, and their children, Matthew, Megan and Nathan. Brother of Lois Gaunt of Johnstown and Mary K. Iddings of Danville, Va., and numerous nieces and nephews. Member of Visitation of the BVM Catholic Church. A 1950 graduate of Johnstown Catholic High School, he attended University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. Served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955. Jim retired from Prudential Insurance Co. with 23 years of service. Friends received from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave., where a vigil service will be held Tuesday evening. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Visitation of the BVM Catholic Church, Monsignor Timothy Stein, celebrant. Entombment, Grandview Mausoleum. Military rites will be conducted by Conemaugh Valley Detachment Marine Corps League.
KYLER – Bern Jepson
KYLER – Bern Jepson, 79, Ebensburg, formerly of Rochester, N.Y., passed away Sept. 2, 2007. Preceded in death by wife, Dorothy (West), and son, Dennis. Survived and sadly missed by his sons, Gary (Beth) and Bern L. (Beth), and daughters, Nancy Smith and Cherene McShane (fiance, Peter); brother, Neil; and sister, Donna Shovestull; aunts, Marie and Shirley; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. He was self-employed as a machinist for most of his life. He enjoyed flying his airplane and owning and racing his race cars. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time at his fish pond. There will be no viewing and interment will be at the convenience of the family.

SILKO – Thomas P., 76, Nanty Glo, died Sept. 2, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Feb. 21, 1931, in Nanty Glo, son of the late Thomas and Verna (Casper) Silko. Preceded in death by brothers, James and William. Survived by sisters and brothers: Margaret (John Shestak, Vintondale; Robert (Catherine), Nanty Glo; John, Blairsville; Joseph, Nanty Glo; and Dolores (Donald) Grove, Vinco; also many nieces and nephews. SODANO – Douglas M., 74, Johnstown, died Sept. 3, 2007, at home. Born July 23, 1933, in Johnstown, son of the late Samuel and Dorothea (Spotz) Sodano. Preceded in death by two brothers. Survived by wife of 48 years, Donna F. (Oakman) Sodano, and these children: Douglas M. Jr., married to the former Kimberly Jacobs; Joseph A., married to the former Ann Schellhammer; and Monty A., married to the former Michelle Livingston, all of Johnstown; also four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Brother of Ronald Sodano of Santa Clara, Calif.; Doryta Fitzpatrick and Naomi Moschgat, both of Johnstown. Retired employee of 18 years from McQuaid Trucking and foreman of 28 years for the Cambria Chair Factory. At the request of the deceased, there will be no services. Preceded in death by parents and brothers, Richard and Edward Yedlosky. Survived by brothers, Joseph (Terry) Yedlosky, Dayton, Ohio, and Donald (Barbara) Yedlosky, Texas; sister, Nancy (Steve) Krejnus, Elmora; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Moriconi Funeral Home Inc., Northern Cambria. Interment, St. Patrick Cemetery, Northern Cambria.

ZAMBONI – Mary (Nagy), 90, Nanty Glo, died Sept. 3, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center. Born May 3, 1917, in Vintondale, daughter of the late Stephen and Johanna Nagy. Preceded in death by husband, Paul; brother, Steve, and sisters, Ann, Betty, Rose and an infant. Survived by children, Paul (Marti), Lancaster; Joanne (Ron) Empfield, Strongstown; Paula (Jim) Todd, Virginia; and Mary Ann (Francis) Patrick, Nanty Glo; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, Joe, Mike and Jim; and sisters, Helen, Veronica, Barbara and Elaine; also many nieces and nephews. Member of St. Mary’s Church, Nanty Glo. Life member of the Nanty Glo Fire Ladies Auxiliary and longtime member of women’s bowling leagues. Mary enjoyed reading, bowling and cooking, and will always be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She recently celebrated her 90th birthday with all her family present. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bowser-Ondriezek Funeral Home, Nanty Glo, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, the Rev. Fr. David Peles, celebrant.
