ADAMS – Stephen R.

ADAMS – Stephen R., 71, Homer City, died Aug. 25, 2007, at home. Born Oct. 19, 1935, in Buffington Township, Pa., son of the late John Quincey and Mabel Blanche (Johnson) Adams. Preceded in death by wife, the former Ruth Nash; brother, John “Jack” Adams; sister, Freida Boznak; and granddaughter, Stephanie Blanche Reed. Survived by these children; Nancy D’Agostino, and husband, Carl, Windber; Mary Jo Reed, and fiance, Rodney, Johnstown; Stanley, married to the former Barbara Shomo, Armagh; and Stephanie Adams, and fiance, Rick, Johnstown. Also survived by nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Frances Uncapher; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. A retired steelworker for Bethlehem Steel Corp., Rod and Wire Division. At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Inurnment, Forest Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements in care of the Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 146 Chandler Ave., Johnstown.

BRIDGES – Margaret Minnie, 84, Johnstown, died Aug. 26, 2007, at home. Born Feb. 22, 1923, in Pittsburgh, daughter of Luther Sr. and Minnie Wilson. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Irvin; son, Ivory Pegues Jr.; sister, Lucy Pollard; brother, Thomas Wilson; and grandson, Judah A. Curry. Survived by daughters, Dr. Marion, married to Bishop Harold Spellman, and Lori, married to Andre Curry, both of Johnstown; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; and brother, Luther Wilson Jr., Detroit, Mich. Member of Peniel Praise Community Church, where she was active with the prayer ministry. Former R.N. with Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh. Friends received from 10 a.m. Wednesday until time of service at 11 a.m. at the Peniel Praise Community Church, Dr. Gene Rice and Bishop Rodney Jeffords officiating. Music ministry by the Rev. Henry M. Davis. Interment, Grandview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in care of Peniel Drug Program in honor of Margaret Bridges. Arrangements by John Henderson Co. Funeral Home.

GOSSARD – Bernice H. “Bernie,” 84, Johnstown, died Aug. 27, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Aug. 17, 1923, in Johnstown, daughter of John P. and Cora M. (Parker) Wright. Preceded in death by parents and these brothers and sisters: William, Richard, Charlotte Haynes, Robert and Adeline Gray. Survived by husband, Samuel E.; children, Peggy, married to Richard Brown, and Jim E., married to Cindy J. Bouch, both of Johnstown; grandchildren, Gregory L. and Steven J. Gossard, Rebecca A. Lambie, Sheri L. Alt and Kevin R. Brown; also 10 great-grandchildren. Sister of Evelyn Wagner, Cramer; Beatrice Croyle, Davidsville; and John P., Johnstown. Member of Ferndale United Methodist Church. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave., where service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, the Rev. John D. Hollis. Interment, Richland Cemetery. HANKINS – Beverly Lynn

HANKINS – Beverly Lynn, 44, Mountain View Specialty Care Nursing Home, Greensburg, formerly of Brookville, died Aug. 23, 2007, at Latrobe Hospital. Born Aug. 2, 1963, in Landstuhl, Germany, daughter of Walter R. and Mary Frances (Carroll) Catron. Preceded in death by mother; brother, Walter Catron Jr.; and brother-in-law, Albert. Survived by father, Daphne, Ala.; sons, Curtis Hankins and William Hankins, both of Brookville; two sisters, Joyce Birch, Brookville, and Wanda Maye, Daphne, Ala.; two brothers, David Catron, St. Peters, Mo., and Scott Catron, Cartersville, Ga.; also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Made her home for 14 years with Ray Toth of Johnstown, before moving to Brookville to live with her sister. Member of the Methodist faith and an enthusiastic follower of the Oral Roberts ministry. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at McKinney Funeral Home, Brookville, Andrew D. Strohm officiating. Memorials may be given to American Heart Association – Northwest Central Pa. Chapter, 501 Howard Ave. Bldg. D, Suite 101, Altoona, Pa. 16601.



KLINE – Harold J.

KLINE – Harold J., 90, of Lute Road, Ebensburg, passed away Aug. 26, 2007, in Akron, Ohio. Born Feb. 21, 1917, in Cambria Township, son of the late Augustine and Ethel (Gittings) Kline. Preceded in death by brother, Clyde Kline, and wives: Ruth Folckemer, Ada Belle Crawford and Ruth Riddle Davis. Survived by daughters: Nancy (Eugene) Bowers of Kent, Ohio; Judy (Edward) Biskner of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; son, William (Barbara) Kline of Atwater, Ohio; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also survived by stepson, the Rev. T. William (Bessie) Davis, Perkasie, Pa.; brother, Lyhle Kline, Vinco; and sisters, Helen Wells, Sharpsville, and Faye Haupt, Indiana, Pa. Harold was a lifelong member of the Colver Presbyterian Church and member of the old Welsh Salem Church. Retired brakeman and engineer for the C & I Railroad in Colver, and a World War II Navy veteran. Member of Post 363 American Legion and an avid Monday night league bowler. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Ebensburg, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, the Rev. Dr. Stanley Bhasker officiating. Interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Johnstown. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harold’s memory may be made to the Colver Presbyterian Church.



MAC PHERSON – Alpha M.

MAC PHERSON – Alpha M., 94, of Venice, Fla., passed away Aug. 24, 2007. Alpha was born Nov. 2, 1912, in Johnstown, Pa. She moved to Venice in 1976 from Gaithersburg, Md. She was an art elementary school teacher for the Montgomery County Public School System in Gaithersburg for 25 years. She was a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Venice. She is survived by one brother, James Davis of Waverly, Ohio; granddaughter, Ann Polumbo of Lancaster, Pa.; and a niece, Nancy Youhon of Venice. PISARCIK – Joseph Thomas “Papa Joe,” 82, Twin Rocks, died Aug. 26, 2007, at his home surrounded by his family. Born July 28, 1925, in Twin Rocks, son of the late John and Sophia (Bielak) Pisarcik. Preceded in death by wife, Catherine; son, Joseph; brother, John; and sisters, Kay Walker, Mary Tanish, Peg Dreher and Pauline Komara. Survived by children: Mike (Roxanne), Twin Rocks; John, Twin Rocks; Judy (Joe) Odell, Ohio; and Tim (Shannon), New Florence; grandchildren, Ben (Yeshi), Jeremy (Tracie), Michael, Stephen, Katie and Noah; great-granchildren, Aidan, Corbin and Joseph; brother, Jake (Edna), Cumberland, Md.; and several nieces and nephews. Member of SS. Timothy and Mark Church, Twin Rocks. Retired coal miner from Beth Energy. World War II Army veteran. Member of the Twin Rocks VFW, Post 7605, and Nanty Glo Legion, Post 619. Joe was an expert gardener and enjoyed taking care of his family, gardening and canning. Friends received from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Bowser-Ondriezek Funeral Home, Nanty Glo, where a vigil for the deceased will be held Wednesday evening. VALINE – Albert J. “Buster,” 58, Beaverdale, died Aug. 26, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center. Born April 29, 1949, in Beaverdale, the son of the late Lester and Rose (Shuty) Valine. Brother of Bernadine, wife of Ken Stancovich, North Huntingdon; Matthew, married to the former Janet Craig, Salix; and Donna, wife of Kenneth Korber, Beaverdale; two nieces; five nephews; and 13 great-nieces and -nephews. Member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. A Navy veteran, having served in Vietnam. Member of Local 1419, Carpenters Union; Beaverdale American Legion; Brookside Sportsmen; Jamestown Rod and Gun Club; Saxton Sportsmen; and the Dunlo Rod and Gun Club. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. Friends received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Jean H. Kinley Funeral Home, Beaverdale, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Father Walter J. Moll, celebrant. WELLEN – William “Bill” R., 88, Homer City, died Aug. 25, 2007, at home. Born March 9, 1919, in Homer City, son of the late Charles W. and Mabel (Hendrickson) Wellen. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Theola (Sullivan) Wellen; brothers, Donald, Richard and Thomas; sister, Louise, and an infant sister. Survived by daughters, Kathryn, married to Dr. Frank Carney, and Mary, married to Dr. John Machella; grandchildren, Meghan and Brynne Machella, all of Johnstown. Also survived by brother, James, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing or services. Arrangements in care of C. ZUMOVITCH – William B.

ZUMOVITCH – William B., DMD, 69, Dysart, died Aug. 25, 2007. Born June 10, 1938, in Spangler, the son of William and Leona (Merrill) Zumovitch. Preceded in death by father and daughter, Nora Jean Zumovitch. Survived by mother, Patton; children, Neal E. Zumovitch, Dysart; Nicole Lynne Hess, Altoona; and Nathan T. Zumovitch, Dysart; former wife, Linda (Blankenhorn) Zumovitch, Patton; and grandchildren, Clinton and Slone Zumovitch, Breanna Hess, Raimee Eger, Zoe Zumovitch, Nori Zumovitch and Trent Adams. U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. “Doc” began his private dentistry practice in Patton and later moved it to the Altoona area, where he was still in practice. He was dedicated to the care of his patients for 38 years. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Stevens Funeral Home Inc., 1004 Fifth Ave., Patton, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Committal, Fairview Cemetery, Patton. Moriconi Funeral Home Inc., Northern Cambria, is in charge of arrangements.
