BROUGHER – Edward Elmer “Bud,” 87, Jennerstown, died Oct. 29, 2012, at Somerset Hospital. Born Nov. 12, 1924, in Coal Junction, Jenner Township, son of the late Clark J. and Mary (Benbenik) Brougher. Also preceded in death by son, Edward C. Brougher; daughter, Valerie Murray; and sisters, Edna Brougher, Betty Tressler and Dorothy Turney. Survived by wife, Jacqueline (Winters) Brougher, to whom he was married for 62 wonderful years; daughter, Betty Sue Johnston, married to William Johnston, Berlin; grandchildren, Jeffrey Murray, married to Megan, Downingtown; Kristine Mihalik, married to Mike, Easton; Kathryn Murray, Mechanicsburg; and Thomas Johnston, and fiancee, Morgan, Johnstown; great-grandchildren, Reece and Hayden Murray and Sydney Mihalik; and sister, Marie Beistel, Somerset. He graduated from Somerset High School, Class of 1943. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific. He was employed by Saxman Coal & Coke for 13 years, and retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp., Gautier Division, as an electrician. Member of Laurel Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jennerstown, and a former member of church council. Former Jennerstown Borough councilman. A 50-year member of Somerset Masonic Lodge 358 F&AM. Former member of Harrisburg Consistory, and a member of Altoona Jaffa Shrine and Somerset County Shrine Club. Past president of Somerset Temple Association, and a member of the Sunshine Club, fondly remembered as “Spud Bud.” Member of William E. Gelston Chapter 435 OES, Greensburg, and Cold Spring Hunting Camp. He was an avid golfer at Oakbrook Golf Course. He loved his time hunting, fishing and with his family. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home, Somerset, where OES service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday and funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Terri Bowman officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Shriner’s Hospital, c/o Jaffa Shrine, P.O. Box 1984, Altoona, Pa. 16603.
